Is MyProductionGuide.com free to access?
Yes. The only requirement is that you register. We do not charge any fees to use the site nor do we sell or share your email or personal information with anyone (see our Privacy Policy by clicking here). How do I use this site?
The site is Free to use. Once registered, you can access any of the Cities (locations) listed in our database – with more Cities added all the time.

Upon selecting a location in the database you have three methods available for exploring all information for that City:

1. You may select any of the Department Links (35mm Camera, Sound, Crew Rates, etc…) from the Menus located on the left side of the screen. Clicking any of these Department Links will take you directly to that page within that City. Once there, you can obtain both costs and information on availability on most items required to properly budget a production.

2. Upon first selecting a City, you are always brought to the City Overview page. Read through that information and then select the “Continue To (next Department)” button at the bottom of the page. You can navigate through every page of every City in this manner.

3. You may also use the Quick List dropdown menu located on the left side of the screen.  This feature allows you to quickly go to a specific section in a specific Department within that City.

All costs are listed in the local currency. We also provide a Currency Converter that automatically updates itself every morning. For almost every cost presented, you can see the fixed local cost and what the converted cost will be for a particular currency.  Information on our Currency Converter is discussed elsewhere in these FAQ’s.

 Using Currency Conversion

How do I use the Currency Conversion feature?
All costs are presented in the local currency of the City/location being detailed. As these costs tend to stay fairly fixed over time, but because currency exchange rates fluctuate daily, we have added an automated currency conversion feature.  This will allow you to see what the cost will be in your selected currency on that particular day.

The Local Cost is presented in a black font. The Converted Cost appears in an italic blue font.

The Local Cost will always be visible, but you may change the associated Converted Cost to any currency you wish (from the extensive list available).

To change the Converted Cost, simply click on the Converted Cost. This will bring up a dropdown list of available world currencies. Then select a currency.

You will now see what that Local Cost is in the converted currency of your choice.  You can change your currency as many times as needed. The international currency exchange rates are automatically updated once per weekday.  The rates are sourced from Oz Forex Foreign Exchange Services, one of the world’s leading foreign exchange services.  The currency exchange rates are based upon what are called Spot Rates or Interbank Rates (commonly defined as the interest rate that banks charge one another for loans).

I do not see any option for the Currency Conversion. Does it work on my computer?
The Conversion feature works seamlessly on nearly all Browsers with the known exception of Safari. If you are using Safari and experience any issues and wish to use the Currency Conversion feature, we recommend accessing the site from a compatible browser.
Why does the Conversion feature not work with all Cities?
The Conversion feature is designed to work on all Cities and locations supported on this site. We are always adding new locations.  If the Conversion feature is not appearing on a certain City, but is working on most other Cities, most likely the currency of this new City is not yet supported by the Conversion feature.

About Local Contacts, Cost & Logistical Information

How do you select the people and companies that provide information?

We look at individuals or companies that facilitate high-end commercial film production.

In medium to major markets, and in smaller markets popular for filming, we have a specific set of criteria the local production contact/company must meet.

These criteria include a review of their client list, noting regionally or internationally recognized production companies or directors. MyProductionGuide.com may also obtain feedback and referrals from respected freelance and production company producers. The types of commercials produced are considered, but not necessarily a major indicator – creative and production values are not always obvious unless the commercial is available for screening.

In locations that are not frequently filmed or where filming resources are limited, we gauge and evaluate a company’s experience based on our verification of references, types of projects and the amount of 35mm commercial productions.

In all markets, MyProductionGuide.com strives to present a reputable, experienced “Top Drawer” resource from all that may be available in that particular market. Our goal is to produce the person or company you would want to hire.

Please review the Local Contact page for the City you are reviewing. This page offers a basic description of the production company or person that provided costs and logistical information for that City. The description presented is provided by the local contact and approved by MyProductionGuide.com

Please note that the contacts providing information are not compensated nor charged a fee.

What should I expect from the budgeting amounts provided?
Ballpark. Ballpark. Ballpark.

MyProductionGuide.com is designed for professional commercial producers, production managers, bidders, advertising agency producers and advertising cost estimators who understand the bidding process.

Every attempt is made to ensure the local contact provides accurate cost and logistical information. While everything is always negotiable, the rates indicated are meant to be realistic rates you would most likely need to pay to hire respected, experienced crew who have an excellent reputation or a similarly reputable company or service.

For locations with a union presence, MyProductionGuide.com does not provide union minimums (with, at times, the exception of Talent). When is the last time you paid a union minimum for an experienced crew member?

Many aspects of a production are dependent upon the director’s approach and upon the highly specific needs of a particular scene or shot. To aid in determining costs for such issues, MyProductionGuide.com provides detailed costs for numerous pieces of equipment, production items and required services for various scenarios.

For example, we describe a complete camera package and provide the daily rate for that package. As an experienced cost estimator, such information may aid you in determining what your specific camera package may cost relative to the cost of the example  package provided.

Why are my final costs different than the costs presented here?
MyProductionGuide.com is designed for professional commercial producers, production managers, bidders, advertising agency producers and advertising cost estimators who understand the bidding process - professional people who have the experience to both budget and plan their production on Distant Location and also know how to communicate and interpret budget needs with a local production contact at that Distant Location.

None of the information presented in this website is binding. In an age when clients need cost information sooner than later, this website is meant to speed the process to help generate a ballpark budget quicker than you can normally obtain without first tracking down a local contact, contacting that person with your specifications, awaiting their response and then starting a dialogue.

Discrepancies in costs may be due to numerous reasons. Regardless of how you normally generate your budgets, elements within and outside of your control can change, misinterpretations of information can occur, and general errors can and will occur, all of which affect costs. You should not solely rely on the costs and information presented in this website.

This website is a liaison towards your final budget. It is strongly advised that once a ballpark is generated, that you communicate with a local person in that desired Location, be it the Contact listed here, or someone you obtain through other means. Thorough discussions should be held with whomever you use to produce or estimate the final cost of your production for the Location/City. Do not rely solely on the information presented in this website for your final cost.

For a full discussion on this subject, including our Disclaimers, please click: Terms of Use and read the information presented.

Where is the Availability or Rate Window when I try to place my Ad?

What can you tell me about the alert message “Someone may already have placed a Banner Ad in one or more of your desired Positions. Please click the [Check Availability] box below for complete details.”?
Should you place an Ad that brings up the alert:  “Someone may have already placed a Banner Ad in one or more of your desired Positions” please know that you may want to proceed with your order in certain cases. To check, cancel the Alert by clicking the Cancel button. Then click the Check Availability button.

In many situations it will be very cost effective for you to proceed knowing not all of your placements may be available. We offer a heavily discounted flat rate when placing a Package Deal (Run of Category, Own a City or Own a Page) compared with the cost if you were to place this same number of Ads one at a time – even if a few of the Positions are not available.  Depending upon how many Positions may not be available will allow you to compare the cost with the cost of placing the ads separately.

If your time period spans more than one month, and some of the unavailable Positions do not occur for all your desired months, once the previously placed unavailable Ad expires, your Ad will automatically take overt that space.

Please know that our Package Deals are flat rates and we do not decrease the cost if less than the maximum Positions are available.

If your order is completely unavailable, you may wish to consider different dates or placements.
